Yet Another AI App? Why Langua Stands Out
With so many new AI language tools popping up recently it’s tough to spot which one is the real deal—or just ChatGPT in disguise with a shiny interface but weak learning experience.
The Langua AI tutor is a standout, offering something that’s not just another gimmick but actually helpful for language learners. Unlike Duolingo’s and ChatGPT’s limited functions, Langua’s AI conversations helps you improve speaking fluency with human-like AI conversations and smart feedback tools.
Langua is not just an AI speaking practice app—it offers features like AI-generated mini stories, flashcards, and immersion content. However, this review will focus only on the AI tutor in Langua—a tool with endless possibilities for language practice in 2025.
We’ll explore: how conversations work, the type of feedback you can get, the AI’s native-like voice, pros & cons, pricing, who it’s for, and common questions.
Let’s unpack this powerful AI chatbot—designed for language learners dreaming of reaching fluency!
1. What Makes Langua’s AI Tutor Special?
Langua has in my opinion the best AI language tutor in 2025 and it’s a game-changer for language learners.
An AI speaking practice tool offers a way to practice speaking anywhere, and anytime, without scheduling a time with a teacher or practice partner. What makes Langua special is that chats with the AI Tutor feels like a real conversation with a native speaker, and its integrated features makes learning a language seamless.
It lets you have audio-based (even written) conversations about any topic with human-like AI (the voices really do sound human). It offers endless practice options, letting you learn new vocab & phrases, get feedback, grow your confidence, and even improve your pronunciation and accent—all in the context of organic conversations!
Ways to get feedback include real-time spoken corrections, written corrections, alternative phrasings to sound more like a native, audio recordings (for self-review and comparison), and post-chat written & audio feedback reports.
Chats are available all skill levels—beginners who want to start practicing speaking, or intermediates or advanced learners wanting to reach higher levels of speaking fluency. It’s an AI app designed to help people achieve fluent speaking abilities in a way that actually works.
The AI tutor can function as a teacher (giving gentle corrections without judgment), a language partner, or a friend (like my café chat in Spain — jump to part: 3. I Asked My AI Tutor to Be My Friend Joe at a Café — Here’s What Happened for more on this).
It offers endless possibilities in that you can speak freely, practice specific scenarios, experiment, and get the benefits of organic conversations and live tutor lessons—without worrying what others think.
Let’s explore how it works.
2. Langua’s AI Features for Smarter Speaking
Before starting your convos using the AI speaking practice tool, select from over 20+ languages and choose your AI tutor (e.g., “Santiago” with a Mexican accent), each have their unique dialect and voice.
Conversations use audio messages—speak into your device and the AI answers back 1-2 seconds later. This approach is helpful to improve speaking fluency as you can take your time to formulate your speech or use any of the feedback features.
Chat levels includes levels from Beginner to Upper-Intermediate/Advanced (B2+), which affects things like word choice and complexity.
Conversation options include Role-plays, Debates, Games, and Grammar practice. You can even create a custom conversation with specific prompts—i.e. how you want the AI to act.
The popular “Chat about anything” is my personal favorite, since most of the time I just want to chat. Also, you can just tell the AI tutor in these chats if you have specific instructions for the conversation, like role-play (as I did with my Spain café chat, see 3. I Asked My AI Tutor to Be My Friend Joe at a Café — Here’s What Happened) or how you’d like to get feedback (more on that in 4. How Langua’s Feedback Boosts Your Skills)
Chat about any topic whether it be travel, 80s movies, books, tech, or the outdoors. Your creativity is the only limit!
Key Features to Transform Your Speaking
Langua has several smart AI language learning features that help you boost your speaking and language skills through these conversations.
To illustrate this, here’s an example from a conversation in Finnish 🇫🇮 where the AI tutor talked about her job as a librarian. For this conversation, I told the AI tutor “Maria” to speak very simply and like I was a beginner in Finnish (even though I’m not), to make it clear in case you’re not familiar with the language.
Let’s go through some features that will boost your language skills through this AI language chat app!
🔁 Translate Sentences When You’re Stuck
When you don’t understand, click the “sentence translate icon” to get instant clarity:
✍️ Click on New Words to Grow Your Vocabulary
Translate any word, hear pronunciation, or add to your vocab deck. You can also add the whole sentence for full context.
Review words later through flashcards, or even be blend into AI chats.
➡️ Alternative Phrasings
Learn a different way of saying the same thing to sound more native. These are key, since each language has its own way of phrasing things.
If what you said was completely spot-on, it will simply offer an alternative way of saying it to broaden your ability to express yourself.
📖 Corrections with Explanations
Click the “pen icon” to see corrections.
Clicking on “Explain this feedback” explains this further.
Here’s an example where I used the wrong form of ‘dekkareita’ (‘detective novels’):
Other features
Audio Replay — Replay the AI’s responses to catch all the nuances
Slowed down audio — Listen to a slower version of what the AI tutor said.
More Conversation options
Use as a “Crosstalk language partner” — You speak your native language and the AI responds to you in your target language—if you want to only practice listening comprehension without having to produce the language yourself.
“Handsfree mode” — Your messages are auto-sent after a few seconds of silence—ideal for practicing while doing chores or driving. Something I’ve used a lot when doing the dishes after dinner!
“Guided conversation mode” — You’ll be given a suggested response that you can listen to and use, which makes the AI language tutor helpful for beginners.
Don’t know how to say something?
Just use English! The AI understands multiple languages, even when they’re mixed together in the same sentence.
What the AI Tutors Actually Sound Like
By now you’re probably wondering what the AI tutor actually sounds like. Here are some examples in different languages to give you an idea.
‘Alberto’ in Castilian Spanish:
‘Maria’ in Finnish:
‘Lucy’ in British English:
They sound just like real humans, don’t they? I know someone who lent their voice for a Langua language, and it sounds crazy much like them! Some languages even feature voices modeled after famous language YouTubers who have lent their voices to Langua.
3. I Asked My AI Tutor to Be My Friend Joe at a Café — Here’s What Happened
Let me take you to a local café in Spain with my AI tutor.
In the beginning of our chat, I told the AI tutor Alberto (who speaks with a Castilian Spanish accent) to:
“I’d like you to pretend you’re my friend Joe and that we’re having coffee at a coffeeshop on a Friday after work.”
The AI tutor immediately switched to a much more relaxed way of talking. He started calling me tío (the Spanish version of “dude”) and used more local Spanish slang—just like someone would when having a relaxed chat with a friend. I did tell him to give me feedback if I made a mistake, which he did just in passing while continuing the conversation. This helped me clean up some of my mistakes, while still keeping the flow of the conversation going:
Screenshot: correction for ‘aprecieso’ to ‘apresio’ in the flow of conversation
I also picked up some new local Spanish slang phrases, like: ‘fijo’ (literally means “fixed”, but is slang for ‘I agree’), ‘dale’ (‘let’s do it’) or the phrase ‘no hay de qué, tio’ (‘you’re welcome, dude’).
Screenshot: Grammar correction for ‘cuando hablas’ to ‘cuando hables’
I sometimes clicked the pen icon on a message I just sent to see if there were any corrections. One example of these was: “cuando hablas” (“when you speak”) should have beeen → “cuando hables” (“when you will speak”)
This type of feedback is exactly what I need to sharpen speaking and listening naturally. It also helps me gain confidence that I’m using the correct grammar, reducing hesitancy when speaking.
Just for fun, I asked Joe to order coffee for us so I could hear how natives do it. This ended up being quite funny, since the AI was talking to someone else (the barista) and not me. It cracked me up when he said “guapa!” (“beautiful!”) to address the barista in the coffeeshop. I didn’t expect him to say that. To me it came off as flirty even, but turns out that’s not the case (for more on that, see section Cultural Tips: Deepening Your Understanding of What’s Appropriate).
The relaxed way he said it with his comment— “that’s how we usually order here”—further added to the feeling of actually being there.
We covered topics like: Mac computers, his new dating relationship, and the ambience of the coffee shop—which streched my vocab in fun ways.
I could literally imagine sitting with someone in a local café in Spain and imagine what it looked like there. How real these situations feel is one of the reasons Langua stands out as a unique language learning tool, with the language learning features seamlessly integrated for whenever you need them.
Our café chat is an example of how to practice Speaking with AI in a way that is not only helpful but actually engaging. The great part of practicing these scenarios with AI is that it makes me excited to use these newfound skills in real life with actual natives.
TIP: The more specific and nerdy your chats are the more interesting they get!
4. How Langua’s Feedback Boosts Your Skills
Having a conversation with someone with someone is valuable because you can get feedback to grow your speaking skills.
Beyond in-chat feedback, Langua offers post-lesson feedback reports in both written and audio formats. It’s one of the AI language learning features that reminds me the most of a lesson with a live tutor.
Post-Conversation Written Feedback Report
Screenshot: Written feedback report
After yours chat, generate a written feedback report. These are similar to what a professional teacher might give you after a lesson: what you did well, areas for improvement, and corrections.
Perfect for focusing on conversation flow but still being able to learn from your mistakes afterwards.
These come as ready-to-print PDFs of the feedback, or a conversation transcript with corrections—perfect for reviewing mistakes between sessions.
Cultural Tips: Deepening Your Understanding of What’s Appropriate
The feedback also includes a Cultural Tip based on your conversation. These are quite interesting and actually valuable—culture is such an important part of languages.
The cultural tip from my lesson was about ‘guapa’ (‘beautiful’ or ‘pretty girl’) that my friend Joe used to address the barista in our café chat in the previous section. How fitting! I was wondering about that one.
In other cultures, his wording might seem flirtatious. As a Scandinavian, I totally interpreted it that way initially. It was useful to know it’s totally appropriate in Spanish culture.

Post-Chat Audio Summaries
A new feature of Langua is that you can also generate Audio Summaries of your chats. They’re a good refresher to listen to after your conversations.
The list of key vocabulary & phrases is also very useful as you can add the ones you want to remember your vocab deck for later review. This lets you learn vocabulary and phrases that are actually relevant to the things you usually talk about.

Can It Correct Your Pronunciation and Accent?
Pronunciation — yes
Accent — no
I asked the AI tutor to get feedback on my accent to test out what the AI was able to do. As expected, the AI gave me feedback on the way I speak but not how I pronounced it or my accent.
The AI tutor can’t give you detailed accent feedback but it can correct you if you mispronounce a word. For example: In Spanish, I once said ‘soñar’ (‘to dream’) instead of ‘sonar’ (‘to sound’), which are easy to confuse for a learner but sound very different to a native speaker.
However, there’s still a way to use Langua to improve your pronunciation and accent.
How Langua Fixed My Finnish “Ä”-mistake
Every message you send you can instantly listen back to. This allows you to self-correct your accent and pronunciation.
I personally experienced this when I had a conversation in Finnish. As as I listened back to one of my messages I noticed that I was pronouncing the “E” sound wrong. It was more like “Ä”, which an understandable mistake given that in my native Swedish these sounds many times sound kinda the same.
In Finnish, however, they pronounce “E” and “Ä” very distinctively. I hadn’t noticed I did this before, but I after bringing it up with my wife (a native Finnish speaker) and she said she had noticed that I sometimes did that. What a valuable piece of information Langua gave me. Now being aware of it, I could start working on fixing this error and improve my pronunciation to sound more Finnish.
A great accent isn’t achieved overnight, but luckily all your conversations are stored so you can even go back compare your speaking to a month earlier—which can be hugely motivating! We usually don’t realize how much we have grown over time.
This type of correction is obviously only possible if you can hear your mistakes. If you don’t, then getting feedback from a human tutor might help you (click ‘Tutoring’ in Langua for top notch language tutors).

9. Langua FAQs: Your Questions Answered
Q: Why not just use ChatGPT to practice speaking?
It’s possible, but not ideal. ChatGPT wasn’t designed for language learning, often cuts you off mid-sentence, and costs about the same—but lacks Langua’s features for language learning.
Q: Can I use Langua as a complete beginner?
Yes, with patience. Set your level to “Beginner” and use guided mode. It’s challenging but you’ll see progress if you use it daily.
Q: Is Langua better than Duolingo?
Definitely. Duolingo is fun, but the video calls feature on the premium plan (at $30/month) is limited. Langua offers realistic conversations, greater flexibility, and deeper learning tools.
Q: Does Langua have a free trial?
Yes! Create your Free Langua account here—no time limit or credit card needed. Try out the AI tutor briefly.
Q: Can Langua replace online language tutors?
No, nothing can replace real human interaction in terms of depth and friendship bonds. However, Langua gives you unlimited practice in between sessions so your lessons become even more effective (you can book lessons with excellent live tutors under ‘Tutoring’ in Langua).
Q: Can Langua’s AI improve my fluency and make my speech sound more natural?
Yes, by applying what you learn from feedback it will help you sound more natural. It’s a lot like practicing an instrument on your own before performing on a stage in front of others.
Q: Are my conversations private and secure with Langua?
Yes, Langua prioritizes data privacy and security—your interactions are only stored locally on your device/browse. No transcripts or recordings shared, ensuring confidential AI conversations.
10. Conclusion: Do I Recommend It?
In 2025’s crowded AI landscape, Langua’s fluency-focused tutor shines above the rest. The platform has improved quickly over the past year and continues to get better.
As a father of two small kids, it was difficult to make speaking happen since it requires more planning— Langua changed that. I could just pick up the phone and start talking on the go. The human-like AI made speaking engaging, like chatting with native speakers, and the feedback invaluable!
Here’s how Langua has personally helped me improve speaking fluency through its AI chats:
• Being more fluid when I speak (less choppy)
• Gain speaking confidence
• Practice daily, effortlessly
• Naturally improve grammar (through feedback)
I still feel I’ve only scratched the surface with so much left to explore still—a truly customizable language experience unlike anything I’ve experienced.
That said, it still requires you to practice to see progress. The difference is how Langua’s gives you the opportunity to spend the time on speaking that it requires to speak well. Some users have reported that their friends and language teachers have been incredibly impressed of how quick their speaking have improved—in a short time.
Langua isn’t for everyone, if you’re someone who want a more structured approach to learning, or prefer human interaction, other tools might be a better fit for you.
But if you’re looking for an engaging, versatile, and seriously powerful tool to boost your speaking fluency for real-world use — Langua totally delivers.
