With so many new AI language tools appearing, it's hard to tell which ones are the real thing and which are basically just ChatGPT in disguise with a nicer interface.

My Path: Structured Learning That Adapts as You Go
My biggest criticism with Langua used to be that all that freedom that it provides came without structure. And structure actually matters — especially on a tired day when you just want to open the app, not decide what to do, and just be told where to start. That's what My Path fixes.
My Path lays out different activities — conversations of various kinds, grammar exercises, a round of vocabulary review — and each one you finish unlocks the next. If you grew up on Super Mario World, you already know the feeling: clear the stage, the path opens, keep going.
Plenty of AI apps have a structured path. What makes Langua's different is that it isn't a fixed sequence — it adapts as you go. The grammar exercises target mistakes you've actually made. The vocabulary review uses words you've collected in your own conversations. And the topics come from your interests: for me, in one of the freeform conversation tasks on my path the AI tutor opened up by asking me about South Korea, a country I've been fascinated with since I was a teenager — this happened because Langua remembers facts about me that I've told it, even months down the road.
I'm still early on the path, but I've been enjoying it even more than I thought. What it gives you is a coherent plan built out of your own learning — which is a lot more motivating, and effective for your learning, than a generic curriculum.

Langua Remembers Things About You — And You Can See Exactly What
The more you use Langua, the more it learns specific facts about you — where you live, your favorite film, what you're currently learning. So you don't start every conversation from zero. It weaves in questions about your life and the things you're actually interested in.
And you can see exactly what it remembers, edit any of it, or delete it. Mine had me down as "first time in Seoul", which came from a roleplay rather than my actual life (I've never been there). But because it’s clearly organized, I could just fix it.
Langua is upfront that it won't always use every fact, and that in certain chats like roleplays it doesn't use them at all. And if you'd rather it didn't remember anything, you can switch it off entirely under "Memory Enabled?" in settings.
Some of the facts Langua has picked up about me, sorted and dated. You can edit any of it, add facts yourself, or delete them.
Import Anything — And Turn It Into a Conversation
Langua also has a new feature that lets you drop your own material straight into a conversation — paste text, upload a .txt file, or upload an audio file — and then discuss it, or have the AI ask you comprehension questions about it. Not only that, you can switch between chatting about it and listening to the original file right there in Langua — very convenient.
The text limit is 500,000 characters, which is a full-length novel. Audio works the same way (45 minute cap per file), so a podcast episode or a recorded lesson becomes something you can actually discuss rather than just listen to. Anything you import can be saved to "My Imports" to come back to later.
So when you read or listen to something interesting, you can have a conversation about it and start activating that vocabulary in your own speaking, check how well you understood it, or however you’d like to use it.

I Asked My AI Tutor to Be My Friend Joe at a Café — Here’s What Happened
Let me take you to a local café in Spain with my AI tutor.
In the beginning of our chat, I told the AI tutor Alberto (who speaks with a Castilian Spanish accent) to:
“I’d like you to pretend you’re my friend Joe and that we’re having coffee at a coffeeshop on a Friday after work.”
The AI tutor immediately switched to a much more relaxed way of talking. He started calling me tío (the Spanish version of “dude”) and used more local Spanish slang — just like someone would when having a relaxed chat with a friend. I did tell him to give me feedback if I made a mistake, which he did just in passing while continuing the conversation. This helped me clean up some of my mistakes, while still keeping the flow of the conversation going:

I also picked up some new local Spanish slang phrases, like: ‘fijo’ (literally means “fixed”, but is slang for ‘I agree’), ‘dale’ (‘let’s do it’) or the phrase ‘no hay de qué, tio’ (‘you’re welcome, dude’).
What it looked like when I clicked the pen icon and got a grammar correction for ‘cuando hablas’ to ‘cuando hables’.
I sometimes clicked the pen icon on a message I just sent to see if there were any corrections. One example of these was: “cuando hablas”(“when you speak”) should have been → “cuando hables” (“when you will speak”)
Langua’s real-time corrections are exactly what I need to sharpen speaking and listening naturally. It also helps me gain confidence that I’m using the correct grammar, reducing hesitancy when speaking.
Just for fun, I asked Joe to order coffee for us so I could hear how natives do it. This ended up being quite funny, since the AI was talking to someone else (the barista) and not me. It cracked me up when he said “guapa!” (“beautiful!”) to address the barista in the coffeeshop. I didn’t expect him to say that. To me it came off as flirty even, but turns out that’s not the case (more on that below in the feedback section)
The relaxed way he said it with his comment — “that’s how we usually order here” — further added to the feeling of actually being there.
We covered topics like: Mac computers, his new dating relationship, and the ambience of the coffee shop — which stretched my vocab in fun ways.
I could literally imagine sitting with someone in a local café in Spain and imagine what it looked like there. What Happens When You Make a Mistake
Speaking practice with AI is valuable mostly because it's judgment-free — you can say things badly, as often as you like, with nobody watching. But to really improve, you also need to find out what you got wrong. In Langua that happens at three separate moments: while you're talking, right after the conversation ends, and later when you come back to review.
Correction Modes
Five correction modes — the implicit one is the interesting one.
You can always tell the AI how you want to be corrected mid-chat. But there's also a setting for it, with five options: off, text corrections below your replies, implicit corrections, explicit corrections, or being asked to repeat the correction out loud.
This is actually a bigger deal than it might sound, because being corrected in the wrong way is what makes AI practice frustrating. I've used apps that flag every single mistake until the conversation stops being a conversation and just becomes exhausting.
For keeping the conversation flow going, while still getting the benefit of corrections, the implicit option is the one I’d recommend. Instead of stopping to spell out the error, the AI folds the correct form into its own reply. If you say "yesterday I went to store" it might answer something like "oh, you went to the store yesterday?" — you get the correction, without interrupting the conversation. Teachers call this a recast, and it's what good ones do instinctively. It's the first time I've seen an app offer it as a setting.
Which mode works best depends on what you're working on and your level. For me it changes by language. In Finnish for example, where I'm working on cleaning up grammar in more complicated sentences, repeating the corrections out loud is what I need.
Right after the chat. When a conversation ends you can generate feedback reports, written and audio ones. Both cover what you did well, what to work on, and the specific corrections from that session. The written one comes as a ready-to-print PDF. The audio one ends with a list of new vocabulary you can add to your deck with a tap.
The feedback also includes a Cultural Tip based on your conversation. In my report from the conversation with Joe it brought up “guapa” (pretty girl), which he’d used to address the barista in the café. As a Scandinavian I read it as flirtatious. Turns out it wasn’t. That's the kind of useful cultural information you'd normally only find out by getting it wrong in front of someone!
The tip that answered something I'd been wondering about the whole conversation.
Later, when you review. Anything you save to your vocab deck — a word, a phrase, a whole sentence — you can come back to review later. As flashcards, woven into future conversations, or as an AI-generated short story built around specific saved words you choose. I've found the AI stories a uniquely enjoyable way to review vocabulary while doing something else.
Can It Correct Your Pronunciation and Accent?
Some AI apps have pronunciation scoring as a feature. Talkpal and Praktika (I compared these two with Langua and a couple of other apps in my top AI apps roundup) both give you per-word scores out of 100, with color-coding and everything. It’s one of those things that looks impressive but doesn’t work in practice. I've had sloppy attempts score higher than careful ones, and Praktika's per-word playback sometimes plays back the wrong word entirely.
Langua doesn't do this — and I think that's a deliberate choice. The technology just isn't good enough yet to score pronunciation reliably, so including this feature would mean giving learners confident feedback that's often wrong. What Langua gives you instead is the ability to listen back to every message you send to self-evaluate. Less impressive on a feature list. Far more useful.
So Langua can’t give you detailed accent feedback but it can correct you if you mispronounce a word. For example: In Spanish, I once said ‘soñar’ (‘to dream’) instead of ‘sonar’ (‘to sound’), which are easy to confuse for a learner but sound very different to a native speaker.
However, there’s still a way to use Langua to improve your pronunciation, even accent.
How Langua fixed my Finnish "Ä" mistake. I personally experienced this when I had a conversation in Finnish. As I listened back to one of my messages I noticed that I was pronouncing the “E” sound wrong. It was more like “Ä”, which is an understandable mistake given that in my native Swedish these sounds many times sound kinda the same.
In Finnish, however, they pronounce “E” and “Ä” very distinctively. I hadn’t noticed I did this before, but after bringing it up with my wife (a native Finnish speaker) she said she had noticed that I sometimes did that. What a valuable piece of information Langua gave me. Now being aware of it, I could start working on fixing this error and improve my pronunciation to sound more Finnish (I wrote up exactly how I did this).

What I love about it
- Natural conversations — chats are engaging and genuinely feel like talking to a person.

What I'd still change
A genuinely short list at this point — but these are real.
- It's pricier than some other AI apps, especially monthly — that's the cost of using the best voice models rather than the cheapest. The annual plan with my code brings it down a long way.
- Romanization doesn't support every language — Japanese and Chinese now do, but Korean, Hindi and Arabic don't yet have it.
- Call mode has a phone-call sound effect you can't turn off. Minor, but I'd like the choice.
- No Cantonese — Just my own personal con. I've been learning it for years and would love nothing more than to have these conversations in it. The day they add it will be a good day.
- There's a lot here. The sheer number of features and options can feel like a lot the first time you open it — though My Path now gives you that clear starting point.

It’s possible, but not ideal. ChatGPT wasn’t designed for language learning, often cuts you off mid-sentence, and costs about the same — but lacks Langua’s features for language learning.
